AICP Certification

The American Institute of Certified Planners provides the only nationwide, independent verification of planners' qualifications. Certified planners pledge to uphold high standards of practice, ethics, and professional conduct, and to keep their skills sharp and up to date by continuously pursuing advanced professional education.

Get Certified!

To become a certified planner, entitled to use the AICP designation, American Planning Association (APA) members must meet certain education and experience requirements and pass the AICP Certification Exam. The exam is given twice each year, in May and November.

Certification Maintenance

AICP's Certification Maintenance (CM) program helps planners gain the knowledge and skills needed to remain current in the practice of planning.
