This position has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office on occasion.
Our Small Urban Transit Coordinator position exists to coordinate a cooperative and comprehensive small urban transit planning with Minnesota’s seven small urban transit providers. Representing the Department of Transportation, this position is a critical link to small urban systems in building transit staff relationships, coordinating planning efforts across transit systems, advising as a stakeholder on major capital improvement projects, and providing best practices for growing and maintaining their transit systems. This position will also ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and provide professional planning technical expertise and analysis related to small urban transit systems in Greater Minnesota.
*Travel is required for site visits statewide to 7 transit systems (City of La Crescent, Rochester Public Transit, City of Mankato Transit, St. Cloud Metropolitan Transit Authority, Duluth Transit Authority, Moorhead (MATBUS) and City of East Grand Forks). 25% travel.

Here are the minimum qualifications:
Three years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience with planning principles, methods, and techniques sufficient to develop local, regional, or metropolitan planning organization (MPO) plans.
- Experience with planning studies or complex planning processes.
- Experience with statistics and spreadsheets to analyze and display trends and conditions.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.
